Healthy Smiles for All

The Coast to Cascades Healthy Smiles for All Program was a $883,385 grant funded program from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Clean Smiles = Healthy Bodies was a public awareness campaign aimed at improving the oral health of uninsured and underinsured residents in the rural communities of Lincoln and east Linn counties.

The goals for the campaign were to raise awareness about:

  • The integral connection between oral health and overall health
  • How poor oral health can lead to chronic disease such as diabetes
  • How good oral health is very important during pregnancy to reduce early childhood caries and tooth decay
  • The new oral health services available through Healthy Smiles for All initiative.

Partnerships & Grant Activities

The Healthy Smiles for All Program involves the following partnerships:

  • Samaritan Health Services
  • Sweet Home Family Medicine
  • Samaritan Brownsville Clinic
  • Lincoln County Oral Health Coalition
  • Linn County Oral Health Coalition
  • Regional Oral Health Coalition
  • Dental Vans
  • Adult Emergency Voucher Program

Grant program activities include:

  • Develop a strategic plan to address health disparities in Lincoln and east Linn Counties with a focus on oral health.
  • Integrate oral health care into 80% of primary care, pediatric and OB/GYN clinics and 100% of WIC offices and Head Start programs.
  • Establish annual comprehensive oral health education training for health care providers.
  • Review and adapt Initiative activities during the first quarter of each year.
  • Develop and conduct region-wide oral health media campaign to educate the public about oral health.

Clean Smiles = Healthy Bodies. Good oral health leads to better overall health and reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses.
