Samaritan Treatment and Recovery Services (STARS) Rural Outreach Project – STARS Rural Outreach
In 2018, Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital (SLCH), a CCCWN partner in Linn County, received a Rural Health Opioid Program (RHOP) grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) for $743,243 to be spent over years (September 1, 2018 – September 30, 2021). The grant supported the STARS Rural Outreach Project which provided substance use disorder/opioid use disorder (SUD/OUD) services in East Linn County, OR.
Partnerships & Grant Activities
The STARS Rural Outreach project involved a partnership between C.H.A.N.C.E., Family Tree Relief Nursery, Lincoln County Health and Human Services, Linn County Alcohol and Drug, Milestones Family Recovery, SLCH and STARS.
The STARS Rural Outreach Project activities in East Linn County included:
- Strengthening a system of care for individuals with SUD by connecting medial facilities, social services, law enforcement and other community-based organizations to one another
- Increasing the number of X-waivered providers to prescribe medications for medication-assisted treatment
- Connecting individuals to prevention and treatment options including access to Narcan
- Developing a model for integrated behavioral health counseling and peer support activities
- Conducting community education and outreach opportunities to community members, medical providers, law enforcement, emergency responders, and individuals who use drugs and their family members
