Rural Communities Supporting Women and Youth (RC-SWAY)
Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital (SLCH), a CCCWN partner in Linn County, received a Rural Communities Opioid Response (RCOR) Implementation grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) for $1 million to be spent over three years (September 2021 – August 2024). The grant supports the Rural Communities Supporting Women and Youth (RC SWAY) project which provides substance use disorder/opioid use disorder (SUD/OUD) services in rural Linn County, OR.
Partnerships & Grant Activities
The RC-SWAY project in rural Linn County involves a partnership between SLCH, Samaritan Treatment and Recovery Services, Family Tree Relief Nursery, Linn County Alcohol & Drug Program, and the Community Health Centers of Benton & Linn Counties.
Grant program activities include:
- Hiring peer support specialists to work with women and youth
- Developing a peer support group
- Reducing stigma through a media campaign
- Increasing access to SUD/OUD services in the community
- Purchasing and distributing naloxone
- Hosting evidenced-based parent education workshops for individuals with SUD/OUD
- Teaching evidence-based LifeSkills Training in elementary and middle school classrooms
- Assisting pregnant women in navigating treatment and recovery
- Integrating middle and high schoolers into early intervention and treatment services
- Coordinating education and training for law enforcement
